We are so happy to welcome John Forrest Mellor Jr. into our family. He was born on September 9, 2014 at 6:56 pm weighing 8 pounds 3 ounces, 19 inches long.
The birth of our second child was a much different experience than our first but the overwhelming and humbling emotions felt just as strong. Again, we turned ourselves over to faith and modern medicine to bring this child safely into the world. We feel so incredibly blessed to be able to have another healthy baby join our family.
This time around I gave up the idea of a natural birth and wanted to participate in any and all interventions possible. Our doctor agreed to put me out of pregnancy misery and induce me five days early. We reported to the hospital on the morning of September 9th and let the good times begin. They broke my water and started pitocin right away. The epidural came shortly after and we were on our way. Thankfully, we had several episodes of Homeland to help pass the hours away. After 10 hours of a very smooth and non painful labor, they said I was ready to start pushing. It only took about 5 minutes of pushing and our baby Johnny made his debut. I can’t describe the joy and sense of relief that overcame me at that moment. We had a perfect baby boy in our arms and our family was now complete.
Welcome to the world, Johnny!
Oh that bitter-sweet moment of Charlotte starting pre-school – I wanted to cry and celebrate at the same time. I can’t believe she’s old enough to go to school and I can’t believe how much this very energetic 2 1/2-year-old girl needs school. Entertaining Charlotte all day every day is not for the meek or mild. We knew she was ready to be challenged in a new way anYd it would be great for her to spend a few hours a day away from home so we all could maintain our sanity, especially with the arrival of her baby brother.
The first day was such a success. I was so relieved to see her run into school with excitement and confidence. She waved bye to me at the door and hasn’t looked back since. It’s such a joy to pick her up everyday and hear the tales of a toddler’s day at school. She has really blossomed in only a month. Her vocabulary and social skills are surprising me everyday. We couldn’t be happier with the Montessori method and the life skills she’s learning. Congratulations, Charlotte! We’re so proud of you!
August 2014 was one of those months I really don’t want to remember. It was consumed with the task of moving our family to Park City during my 9th month of pregnancy. We wanted to move to Park City so Charlotte could start preschool before the baby came and so we could be close to the building site of our new home. We were able to find a great house to rent for the next year or so and made the move at the end of August. It was a little sad to say goodbye to our Lehi house – we made so many memories there that we will never forget. Lehi is where we got married, brought home our first baby and really became a family. Lehi will always hold a special place in our hearts but we’re excited for the next chapter in Park City. We didn’t capture very many pictures of this less-than-glamorous ordeal but we definitely wanted to make sure this one was in the books. (p.s. our Lehi house is still for sale if anyone wants to buy it:-))
